The Building Starts to Take Shape
The photo above shows the progress of the structural steel frame assembly. The area framed is the gymnasium. Due to the limited staging area available on site, the structural steel will be delivered and assembled in four (4) separate areas: gymnasium, multi-purpose room, library, main entry and two storey sections of the building.
The vaulted ceiling sections will proceed first and then the fourth section will be framed using a more conventional structural design.
The steel (gym) and wood deck ceilings (library and multi-purpose room) will be installed directly over the structural trusses and a standing seam steel roofing systems will protect the whole assembly – the ceiling deck and roofing systems will be installed over the next couple of months and the flat portions of the roof that connect the vaulted spaces will be installed in late winter/early spring.
The foreground of the photo shows the floor area above the basement level – the basement floor is complete – masons are expected this week to begin the installation of the interior partitions to create mechanical, electrical and storage spaces. The upper floor level is poured as well. This is the area of the reception desk, offices, staff room and servery.
All sub floor drainage systems have been completed. The plumber has also installed one of the radiant in-floor heating loops – embedded in the concrete seen on the main floor. Some of the mechanical equipment will be delivered this week and lowered into the basement area. Water meter and backflow assemblies will be constructed in anticipation of connecting to the street service in a couple of weeks.

New Construction Update
The contractor has completed all of the footings and foundation walls and is now in the process of erecting the steel structure – the steel will be installed in sequence over 3-4 weeks beginning with the north-east corner of the gymnasium and works south and west out of the building. This installation sequence allows for greater flexibility with the crane and eases the delivery of steel to the site (which has limited storage area).
In addition to the work ongoing within the building footprint, the site services contractor has been busy installing the storm sewers, sanitary and water service. The work will tie into the services in the street within the next 2 weeks. The water service is located on the south side of Vipond Road and the tie-in will require a period of road closure. Road signage and public notices will soon be erected and distributed to confirm the date of closure. It is expected that the road will be closed for the entire day.
The plumber has also been busy on site and has installed all of the in-floor sanitary and storm water drainage lines. Next up for the plumber will be the installation of the in-floor heating loops (that will be cast into the concrete floor).
The new high voltage electrical service will be installed as soon as the site service connections have been completed.

The basement excavation and the footings have been completed and the foundation walls have been installed.
Next steps will include backfilling all of the open excavations and the under slab service conduits will soon be installed. The granular base for all poured concrete floor areas is complete and the structural steel will begin arriving within the next couple of weeks. Once the structural steel is on-site, assembly of the steel frame will commence.
